Fuel Injection
Fuel injection service cleans naturally occurring gum and carbon deposits on the fuel injectors and often throughout other parts of the fuel system, such as the fuel tank and throttle body. Under some circumstances, servicing the fuel injectors can improve your car's fuel efficiency and operation.
If your vehicle is not idling properly, returning poorer than manufacturer standard fuel economy, producing engine rattles or delivering sluggish performance, it may be time for a fuel injector service. A mechanic can provide this service, or you can purchase specific products that you deposit into the fuel system that will clean the injectors as you run the vehicle.
Most mechanics recommend fuel injector services every 40,000km for cars used for short distances or stop-start driving. For highway driving or long-distance travel, fuel injector service can be spread out more. In some cases, a bad batch of fuel may warrant fuel injection maintenance.
If you have an older-model car with a carburettor, you will still need to clean the jets, and there are appropriate products on the market to do this. While no car should need overly frequent fuel injection services, it is good periodical maintenance for your vehicle and often necessary for proper operation.
Speak to a mechanic if you are unsure about fuel injectors, and always use quality products to the instructions the manufacturer provides. If your car fits the symptoms or requirements listed on this page, consider a fuel injection service.
