Blue Slip
Blue Slips can be obtained at an appropriate Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station. All states have an unregistered vehicle examination process, but it is not always called a blue slip inspection. You will have to check with your individual state or territory's governing motoring body for specific details.
However, there are several inspection stations in each state, and many motor mechanics are qualified to perform these inspections. In some cases, the cost of a blue slip or similar inspection is minimal when you take the time to observe the inspection and registration requirements and any appropriate engineering laws.
You will often need a blue slip or similar vehicle inspection when:
- You want to register a previously unregistered vehicle
- You want to transfer a vehicle registration from interstate
- You want to import a vehicle from overseas
- You have modified your car significantly from the manufacturer
- You have received a defect notice
- Your vehicle was written off but you have repaired it/li>
In general, a blue slip inspection is a more detailed version of a pink slip inspection. You can expect to be scrutinised on things like proof of ownership, engineering requirements, applicable vehicle standards and safety laws, roadworthiness, proof of compliance and other necessary repair work.
Contact an authorised professional or your local motoring body for more information on blue slips.
