JARGON BUSTER - MONOCOQUE CHASSIS

CARS used to have two distinct parts: a frame, or chassis, that contained the suspension, engine and driveshaft, plus a separate body with all the panel work that was bolted onto the chassis. Every car and most SUVs (except for a few hardcore offroaders and work utes) now have a monocoque chassis, which is a single frame with mechanical components bolted directly underneath.
