SHE'S the daughter of a music legend and feted as the "next supermodel", but Theodora Richards was mixing it with mechanics in Melbourne yesterday.

The 21-year-old daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and model Patti Hansen was hired as this year's Grand Prix ambassador because of her image as a jetsetting "party girl".

And she has another link with the southern capital - her boyfriend, Paul "PC" Valmorbida, was born in Melbourne.

As part of her ambassadorial duties during her four days at the Albert Park circuit, Richards will wave the traditional chequered flag to start the race.

Yesterday, she strolled through the pit lane to meet the behind-the-scenes workers.

While she has shown an interest in a music career, the model nicknamed "Teddy" is more likely to follow in her mother's footsteps.

She was pictured in an underwear campaign for Marks & Spencer, alongside Elizabeth Jagger, the daughter of Mick Jagger and Texan model Jerry Hall. She has also starred in campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger and a catwalk show for New Zealand designer Karen Walker.

Richards has spent time in Australia before, holidaying with her family on the NSW North Coast during the Rolling Stones' 2003 tour.

Her famous father is due to visit Australia next week for concerts in Sydney and Melbourne, and she hopes to spend some time with him.

The Rolling Stones are scheduled to perform at Telstra Stadium in Sydney next Tuesday, then Melbourne next Thursday.
