Forged Pistons
When rebuilding a car engine, one of the primary components people focus on is the pistons. After an engine rebore, you may be able to fit larger pistons, and for performance applications, forged pistons could be a consideration.
Forged pistons, as the name suggests, are hardened steel and stronger than most OEM pistons. However, before you rush out and buy a set of forged pistons, consider that the harder the steel, the less flexibility. Used in an incorrect application, forged pistons could lead to an engine breakage and serious engine damage.
In high performance applications using turbo chargers or large stroked engines, forged pistons may be a suitable car engine part to add. However, do not add forged pistons to an engine with lower power, heat ranges and normal application or the forged piston may work against itself and other car engine parts.
Camshaft
A camshaft operates the opening and closing of valves, which deliver fuel and air to the engine. Different camshaft designs can offer different levels of performance to your engine, and camshafts will also affect things such as engine timing.
A camshaft is a highly technical part in your engine, and only a skilled mechanic can put together a camshaft correctly. Incorrect camshaft issues could cause your engine to malfunction and blow up. In performance circles, the exact technical specifications of a camshaft are often a highly guarded secret.
However, specialist mechanics will be happy to install a camshaft in your vehicle - performance or otherwise. A specially designed custom camshaft can enhance your engine's attributes such as power and acceleration, so if you are after more performance, speak to one of our mechanics about adding a performance camshaft to your car engine.
